It's time once more to catch up on the unabridged Post-Trash “Year In Review” with releases that went under the radar, the hidden gems, and the essential records from the past twelve months. This is our comprehensive guide to our favorite releases of the year without a pre-determined length.
Brooklyn micro label Minikin, have released their first compilation: Afterthoughts; a lovely 14-track record for which the proceeds go to Brooklyn music education platform We Make Noise. Minikin, formed in 2015, have brought together scene stalwarts Bethlehem Steel, Vagabon, Long Beard, gobbinjr, Half Waif, among others, and the result is a lovely, meandering set of songs that fit well together without being overly similar.
Compiled by Adam Kolodny and Jim Hill, BS3 features work from 10 different artists, some solo and some working as a group, all distinct and interesting in their own right.
Led by Becca Ryskalczyk, the recently transplanted Brooklyn-based band have generated a handful of songs checkered with fuzz, soft vocal melody, punctuating bass, and sinuous drums. The sometimes quivering, sometimes belting voice of Ryskalczyk maintains a sense of order and control over the ever-shifting dynamic.
