Never ones to sit stagnant for too long however, the band are back today with a new single, Cavehead b/w Mind’s Eye, out via Greenway and Austin’s Reverberation Appreciation Society. While the single comes from an upcoming record, the frantic psych boogie is more than enough to whet appetites until then.
Es’ new video “Severed,” is a quarantine video done right, full of kitchen, garden, and shower performances that are defiantly goofy but as deadpan as can be. That steely form of deadpan fits the band’s music, as their debut LP, Less of Everything absorbs synth punk at its most taut, everything snapped perfectly into place.
Harrison Colby has played in Sex Scenes, Rexxx, No/No, and The Delphine, but today he’s stepping out on his own with The Beat Index, a new project that resides somewhere between synth punk and synth pop. The band’s debut album, Volume One: Juvenilia, is due out July 31st via No Coast Records on limited edition cassette and digital.
Poolblood is taking a look back and revisiting “I’m Sorry” with a reimagined sound, joined together this time with Louie Short and Eliza Niemi. All Hits are set to release their full length debut, Men And Their Work via Iron Lung Records this coming Friday, and much like their band name applies, there isn’t a dud in the bunch. From the detached feedback of the intro to the hyper-speed finale, the Pacific NW trio make post-punk with a heaping amount of dissonance and strength.

Wallplant is a solo project from Chicago’s Donny Walsh, a Chicago musician that has been busy with a wide breath of projects over the years (Stuck, Krozer, Surveillance). While it’s been three years since Wallplant released Understand, this week Walsh returns to the project with a new EP, Nothing For Sure.
Set to release Slack Capital 3 on Friday, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Austin Justice Coalition, a local justice group that seeks to educate and build community. The 41 track compilation was curated by Eric Braden (Big Bill), Nathan Lankford (Austin Town Hall Records), and local booking agency Howdy Gals.
Chicago quartet Bruges are set to follow up last year’s An Erasure of Form with a new album, A Thread of Light, due out Friday, June 5th. Their sound is a dark mix of noise rock and primal minimalist repetition, comprised of droning low-end and plenty of tension. The heaviness of their sound relies as much on atmosphere and dynamic as it does physical heft and volume.
Having released their debut EP at the start of 2019, the duo are ready to share their full length debut, Service Provider, on August 25th via their recently formed label. The band are sticking with their charitable deeds, donating 20% of all proceeds to The Trussell Trust, plus an extra 10% on Bandcamp’s upcoming fee waiver days.
As a song that expounds on loneliness and isolation, the current global state of affairs injects new meaning into the deeply personal “Bad Words.” Though written before the current pandemic, in the video, the band applies the song’s themes to the new collective normal that many are experiencing with a hopeful and inspiring message.
Blessed Fruit is easily the most violent and deranged the band have ever sounded. The entire record is sonically threatening to bury you under a mountain of high frequency feedback and piercing levels of gain. Following last year’s Oakland Ave, Keen returns with new full length, Cells Remain, out August 21st on Birdwatcher Records.
Diving, the band’s new record is due out July 17th via their new label home at Pittsburgh’s Crafted Sounds (Spooled Up, The Zells, Bat Zuppel). The album, which while optimistic, deals with both anxiety and self-improvement, is based around the urgent attention that is needed in regards to the environment and the role of humans in it.
Paved Mountain is the bi-coastal band’s fourth album, due out on June 23rd via Uninhabitable Mansions (Annie Hart, Sat. Nite Duets, Pursesnatchers), and picks up their subtle glory, shining a light on their muscular brand of indie rock and introspective songwriting, with more than a few new tricks up their sleeve.
