With members found in iconic local bands Mares, Hideous Towns, and No Sister, Melbourne five-piece Hooper Crescent have managed to successfully channel the angular, percussive drives of Pylon and Omni into debut record Object Permanence.
First single “Logos” dropped via Spoilsport Records earlier in the month, exhibiting the band's inspiring ability to perfect supplementary rhythm. Luckily, it's only further confirmed with the release of “Bible Studies” - a track largely sunny, driven by a pleasantly consistent groove akin to Nirvana's “Love Buzz”.
Guitar and keys flourish below ever so slightly cynical vocals, lyrics sharp and precise in delivery. The band say they're "an allegory exploring the feeling of being trapped in an environment or situation that feels antithetical to your core beliefs and values."
Taking off where their 2018 self-titled tape solidified their post punk/art rock musings, Hooper Crescent's latest offering makes Object Permanence an anticipated release.
Object Permanence is out July 31 via Spoilsport Records / Polaks Records (EU), and is available to preorder now.
