Welcome to FUZZY MEADOWS, our weekly recap of this week's new music. We're sharing our favorite releases of the week in the form of albums, singles, and music videos along with the "further listening" section of new and notable releases from around the web. It's generally written in the early hours of the morning and semi-unedited... but full of love and heart. The list is in alphabetical order and we sincerely recommend checking out all the music we've included. There's a lot of great new music being released. Support the bands you love. Spread the word and buy some new music.

*Disclaimer: We are making a conscious effort not to include any artist in our countdown on back-to-back weeks in order to diversify the feature, so be sure to check the "further listening" as well because it's often of top-notch quality too.

C.H.E.W. | “King Kurtis”

Chicago’s favorite hardcore destruction crew C.H.E.W. are back once again with an upcoming 7” EP, In Due Time, due out in April via Iron Lung Records (S.H.I.T., Alien Nosejob, Rank/Xerox). The first single, “King Kurtis,” is a ripper, just the way we’ve come to expect from the band. With a ferocity that goes unmatched, the drums come tumbling out like a hurricane in a confined space, roaring and tearing the ground beneath it. The vocals are direct and pointed, as they ask “who put your ass in charge, anyway” before writhing and squirming from one chaotic riff to the next, burning all in their path in the process.

DEERHOOF | “Future Teenage Cave Artists” + “The Loved One”

When times are dark, we can continually be thankful for Deerhoof, one of the brightest shinning moments of the past two and a half decades. Just when we needed it the most, the iconic art punk band has announced their latest album, Future Teenage Cave Artists, due out in May via Joyful Noise Recordings (Ohmme, Tropical Fuck Storm, Kidbug). The announcement comes with two brilliant new singles, the record’s title track and “The Loved One,” both capturing that Deerhoof magic that feels like pop music from another reality and delightfully detach post-punk, that continually keeps us dancing with intelligent design.

DISHEVELED CUSS | “She Don’t Want”

Tera Melos mastermind Nick Reinhart is set to release his self-titled solo debut as Disheveled Cuss in June on his long running home at Sargent House (The Armed, Chelsea Wolfe, Miserable). Flexing his muscle at early 90’s alternative rock bliss with a touch of mathy power-pop (imagine Weezer meets Pinback), the latest single “She Don’t Want” is a great example of just how adept he is at it, shredding through giant melodies with fractured rhythms and jagged riffs that feel syrupy and avant-pop in return. The video, clearly shot before our current seclusion, captures Reinhart shredding all around town, it’s kinda like the punk version of seeing a shooting star.

RICK RUDE | “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” (Neil Young & Crazy Horse cover)

Back at the beginning of this month (which genuinely feels so damn long ago), we saw the release of Look Out For My Love, a compilation of Neil Young covers with all proceeds donated to RAICES. It’s still an important cause and can use everyone’s support. One of the many highlights is Rick Rude’s cover of the classic “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” and the band did not spare a second of the shred. Fully fried and packed with twin guitar energy, the band absolutely crushed this one and now there’s an equally delightful video to bring a smile to your day, complete with some great dance moves and scenic green-screen joy.

WATER FROM YOUR EYES | “33:44” LP

Following the incredible Somebody Else’s Song released back in October, Water From Your Eyes have truly released the quarantine time goods with a new, highly experimental album, 33:44. Named for it’s run time, the three track effort takes an expanded approach toward music that feels like a fever dream as directed by David Lynch. It’s unsettling, haunting, artistic, and really quite astounding in both sound collage and poetic brilliance from Nate Amos and Rachel Brown respectively. With screeching noise and ominous soundscapes that feel like nightmares swarming, Brown offers a spoken word that’s as profound as it is detached.
