As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.
You could call Blonde Redhead's The Shadow of The Guest a companion to 2023's Sit Down For Dinner. You could call it a curiosity, a trip down the experimental rabbit hole with mixed results. The record's first half finds the trio joined by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, further smoothing the edges with lush orchestral grace. Then there's the ASMR portion of the album... which is more delightful and less strange than one might expect (especially on "Kiss Her Before The Snow Melts"). The record ends with a new Latin inspired arrangement of "Coda" and well, we have no complaints.

Two of Olympia's finest hardcore bands, Electric Chair and Physique, have teamed up for a new ten song split via the incomparable Iron Lung Records. The record is a swarming hornets nest of paint peeling riffs and stomping drums, blistering with noise and rampant disdain. Electric Chair’s side is unhinged and ruthless while Physique’s side is blown-out and scathing, brutal hardcore captured with a lo-fi basement production hiss. It’s an intense listen, each song a propellent of skull cracking punk in its rawest form.

Frankie Cosmos never misses. Greta Kline an co. have making indie pop cool for well over a decade now, inspiring a whole generation of bedroom pop rockers in the process. Different Talking seems to put an extra emphasis on their musical exploration, the record swirling between landscapes that bring muscle to Kline's words and gentle atmospheres that contort with vibrancy. It's a truly dynamic record that's balanced by Kline's profoundly human writing.

Western MA via NYC indie pop duo Jeanines return with their third full length album, How Long Can It Last, another fuzzy nugget of foggy pop hits. Channeling late 60's folk, sunshine pop, and power-pop into a set of breezy sub-two minutes songs, Jeanines manage to achieve an incredible scope and depth. The compositions and vocal melodies are in perfect harmony, tackling tough topics with the lightest of touches. Jeanines make it all seem effortless.

Lisa/Liza is taking time to reflect, exploring her earliest songs with Ocean Path, a new EP that includes some of the Maine based songwriter’s first recordings. The sheer beauty in Liza Victoria’s sparse minimalist folk it would seem has been entranced from the very start. Unfolding like well worn lullabies sung from someone close at heart, her music relies as much on the empty spaces as it does the gentle comfort in her voice.

Bay Area dream-pop quartet Ryli release their full length debut Come and Get Me, a record of bright pop with dark shadows. Led by Yea-Ming Chen, there's a natural chemistry found in the band's writing, a lovely blend of retro psych pop and entrenched jangle, complete with expansive harmonies and a subtlely soaring guitar leads. "Bad July" is among the stand-outs, a rumbling surge of pop bliss.
