As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.

Six years after their last release, Ava Luna are back, and their grooves are astounding. The self titled album is their first as a quartet, stripped back ever so slightly, but the crisp rhythms and silky grace of their sound remains amorphous, dipping in and out of their signature blend of soul, art rock, funk, and psych pop. Felicia Douglass and Carlos Hernandez’s voices are each radiant on their own, but really dazzle when weaving seamlessly together.

When things feel hopeless and the stress of the world weighs its heaviest, there’s comfort to be found in Naima Bock’s music. Live In Toulon, captured solo in April of last year, follows the release of Below A Massive Dark Land (one of 2024’s absolute best albums), pulling song from both that album and her debut. Paired down to vocals and soft guitar, Naima Bock's music sounds like healing, her magnificent voice floating above it all.

Peel Dream Magazine's latest EP Taurus is a companion piece to last year's Rose Main Reading Room, an extension of that record's glowing warmth and soft psychedelic experimentation. With synths that feel celestial in tone, Joseph Stevens and his collaborators continue to create expansive landscapes and gorgeous textures that feel both alien and comforting.

There's a profound restlessness to System, the second album from Prewn, brought to life in strings that crawl, distortion that contorts, and most importantly, Izzy Hagerup's brilliant vocals. With a dissolution of common structures, System takes shape in feeling, unease and beauty working together to create something magical and timeless. Hagerup is a once in a generation type of musician and System proves once again that she's forming her own unique path.

Taut, zany, ripping, jittering with energy... Snooper's music is like fireworks going off in a small enclosed space. Worldwide, the band's second full length, comes crashing in with hyper speeds, swarming hooks, and some new tricks, embracing electronic touches while remaining firmly in their realm of berserk art punk (at it's finest). It's music for a distant future, a better future.

Following last year's great Moral Decay LP, Perth hardcore band SOOKS return with Taste The Leather, a new EP of blistering punk and righteous aggression. The quartet play with tempo ranging from a mid-paced stomp to an all out sonic assault, dive-bombing between piercing riffs and buzzsaw sludge. The heart of their explosiveness belongs to Ange's intense and cathartic paint-peeling vocals.
