As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all “tweet sized,” kept brief in the tradition of our old new release thread. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are but some of the many we think you should check out.

Beings are tapped in from the start. The experimental collective comprised of Zoh Amba, Steve Gunn, Shahzad Ismaily, and Jim White, deftly move between improvisational jazz, dense noise rock, and hypnotic psych drifts with a freedom fitting their music. There Is A Garden is a rollicking blast of avant-garde fusion, unglued from any predetermined destiny, and all the more immersive as a result.

Goat Girl are one of those bands with the ability to brilliantly recreate themselves on every record while retaining their musical identity. Below The Waste is another magical shift, heading outward in every direction, from a glistening post-punk glow to a gentle folk splendor. They're following threads wherever they may lead, in turn creating a record that demands your attention and rewards repeat listens.

While Marina Allen's debut album was steeped in the Laurel Canyon sound, she's been finding her own unique place with each successive record. Eight Pointed Star is a warm folk record, nuanced and dynamic, with a psychedelic touch just beneath the surface. There's plenty of gentle compositions and emotional depth, highlighting the breadth of her songwriting.

New England art punk band Perennial are the aural equivalent of "contents under pressure". Their brand of "mod" punk is full of garage stomp and pop sheen, captured with relentless swagger and dance punk exuberance. Recalling bands like The (International) Noise Conspiracy and maybe even Enon at times, Art History is an ultra sleek blast of hip-shaking grooves.
Anti Fade Records

Five years after their debut, Melbourne's Program come jangling back onto the scene with their second album, It's A Sign. With big power-pop hooks at every turn, there's a syrupy resolve to each song, sticking in your head like glue long after the hours have elapsed. Casual and supremely cool, Program sound confident over a set of radiant AM gold hits.
Artoffact Records

Forever deranged and riddled with throbbing anxiety, Psychic Graveyard return with their latest album, Wilting, a record that keeps their seasick pulse warped and oozing, but offers a sonic clarity in comparison to their prior efforts. "Clean" is most definitely the wrong word, but the boost in fidelity works for their noise rock meets post-punk experimentations.
Tomothy Records

Los Angeles’ Rearranged Face specialize in an electrified brand of arty noise punk, tangled in twin guitar riffs and agile rhythms. Far Green Arcade, the band's new album, is jittery and primitive, buzzing with static eruptions one moment and tightly coiled into yelping elastic acrobatics the next.
Merrie Melodies

Shop Regulars' self-titled album is as refreshing as they come, a welcome reset for all our ears. Primal and hypnotic, the Portland based project rips through ramshackle riffs and combustible production to create something that's incredibly honest, engaging, and sort of deranged. Bending repetition into knots, Shop Regulars create busted lo-fi punk on the verge of collapse.
Backwoodz Studioz

ShrapKnel, the duo of Curly Castro and PremRock return with Nobody Planning To Leave, an artistic hip-hop record with a forward thinking glow. Produced in full by Controller 7, the eclectic beats are incredible, an ever evolving landscape for the duo's oft abstract lyrics and raw delivery. ShrapKnel spit their verses with a kinetic focus, bar after bar of acrobatic highlights. We’ll be listening to this one on repeat.

Special World, the latest project from Andy Molholt (Speedy Ortiz, Laser Background), has released some of our favorite weirdo lo-fi psych pop over the past few years. This self-titled collection compiles everything to date, capturing the early years with a range of warped and wonderful textures tied together by Molholt's charming pop songwriting.
