Hailing from Columbia, Missouri via Alabama, Rae Fitzgerald is getting ready to release her new record, Lonely Listener, on August 28th via Keeled Scales (Tenci, Dubb Nubb, Buck Meek). The six song EP is the first new music from Fitzgerald since 2016’s Popular Songs For Wholesome Families, and the timing feels right as this year, if nothing else, is a good time for reflection and time in your head. It’s a folk record at heart, built on dreamy atmospheres and intimate recordings, capturing Fitzgerald’s thoughts in raw portraits that channel honest performances and soft melodies. Having spent time playing support for bands like Lomelda, Palehound, and Lucy Dacus, it’s easy to hear those connections, but her music opts for a more gentle and personal ease.

“I’ve Got A Vision,” the record’s second single was released last week for everyone’s favorite new holiday, Bandcamp Friday, and we’re excited to share the song’s accompanying video. Directed and edited by Chelsea Wright, the clip takes a serene trip though the open spaces and friendly moments Missouri has to offer. It’s slow moving and full of natural beauty, which is a great for the song, “an ode of love, not to another person, but to a continuity of her vision and an affirmation of self-belief.” The slow picking of Fitzgerald’s acoustic guitar and the soft rhythmic stomp provide a gorgeous framework for her twangy melody and poetic lyrics as her ode to persistence against all odds unfolds.
