Smut - "Rosewater" | Post-Trash Premiere

In the back half of last year, Cincinnati's Smut released their full length debut, End Of Sam-soon. It's a resilient record that trickles with the best parts of shoegaze and an undercurrent of fuzzy power-pop. The mix of genres is non-traditional, a rare occurrence where walls of distortion are balanced by sugary pop melodies and syrupy hooks, and Smut make it work at every drifting turn. It's big, dirty, and distorted, but the surge of sweetened vibes and youthful exuberance are never fleeting. The band's attention to sonic detail is matched with infectious songwriting, sometimes knowingly bratty, other times restrained and dreamy. They are breathing new life into shoegaze and power-pop in the process, blurring lines and creating their own path.

Today the band announced they will be hitting the road in September with Nothing, Big Bite, Culture Abuse, and one of the greatest shoegaze bands of all time, Swirlies. In celebration of their upcoming dates, the band are sharing a new video for Sam-soon stand-out "Rosewater". The slow-paced clip matches atmosphere to song-structure as Smut vocalist Tay Roebuck sings amid a digital snowfall and fuzz permeated landscape. She's cut and bruised, but often smiling, and well, we're hoping for the best. The song's guitars dig into the grungier moments of the feedback explorations, recalling the glory years of Swervedriver and the oceanic sprawl of Ride. This is the good kind of Smut, the kind you need.

Smut's End of Sam-soon is out now via Broken Circles Records.
