The art of a great music video isn't gone. While many have gone the route of found footage and weird VHS effects, there are still videos made with rich concepts and ridiculous stories. Mr. Husband understands the importance of a good fun video and "Living In Dreams" is a good fun video. The project, self described as the songwriting and comedy persona of Kenny Tompkins (best know as one half of Yellow K Records), released their sophomore album, Silvertone, earlier this month and they've followed it with a video of the utmost importance.
The scene is set innocently, the band meet for practice and make plans to hang out afterwards to play a friendly game of darts... or friendly enough. Their dreamy indie pop gets literal as they find themselves "Living In Dreams". When drummer Chris Morris decides he doesn't want to go because bassist Jasen Reeder always wins, Tompkins assures him this time will be different, with a foolproof plan for victory. Things start off, there are some beers and a whole lot of stretching, then it happens. Tompkins aka Mr. Husband himself turns away from the dart board with an over the shoulder backwards approach... and he can't miss. The "rulez" book is consulted and everything is good to go. It's the upset of a lifetime, and a wonderful lighthearted victory to accompany the jangly pop song's reverberating charm. There's only one way to find out the thrilling conclusion though, so be sure to watch the video.
It's refreshing to see a band having a great time, and it's even better when they make some pretty great music while they're at it. Special thanks to producer Kinny Huxpin for making our video dreams come true.
Mr. Husband's Silvertone is out now via Yellow K Records.
