Who are Decorum? This nameless trio from New York City are emissaries from the void, sent to translate the darkness into melodic, cold infused tones that are pleasing to the ears but still leave one feeling haunted, touched by something from the other side. They along with others (Second Still, She Past Away, The Agnes Circle just to name a few) are here for those whose tastes run darker. Decorum’s sound is colder than most. Achieved by the playing of two basses, drums, and no guitar they immerse you in their world. Little light penetrates their sound.
"Dead Wait" is the second transmission off their new EP SUMS. The drums hang on the toms, the cymbals used sparingly till the end. The bass comes in waves, one played low, the other high. The vocals are buried deep. It all gives off a feeling of hearing something from a distance. Disconcerting the listener while at the same time driving them to want to hear more, to strive to find the source. It is desolate and over before you know it. There is no waste in their sound. It becomes like a half-remembered dream.
SUMS will be out in early April. If you’re in the Northeast, catch them in March and April playing near you.
