Boston’s Kid Mountain have been quiet since self-releasing 2012’s Happies. That album set the tone for the indie rock band’s psychedelic sound while mixing lilting melodies with playful lyrics.
We’re lucky enough today to share two exclusive helpings of Beantown psych from the band’s upcoming release, Trinkles. Both songs capitalize on the sounds they put forth on Happies but find them sharpening their production edges. The songs are meticulously recorded and feature fantastic reverb-soaked melodies and harmonies.
‘Walk Around’ might be the catchiest song in the band’s repertoire. Its laid-back groove underscores a great vocal performance in the vein of Animal Collective and The Shins. ‘Curtains’ cribs some of the chord turns from the Beach Boys catalog before giving way to a wordy and anthemic chorus. Both new tunes suggest another strong album with Trinkles and one that will be kind to repeated listens.
Kid Mountain's new album Trinkles is due out soon.
