Tape Deck Mountain - "I Will Break U" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

by Dan Goldin (@post_trash_)

Nashville via Brooklyn via San Diego shoegazers Tape Deck Mountain released I Will Break U this past weekend for the "maybe this is becoming a thing" Cassette Store Day, a "holiday" celebrating the resurgence of tapes and cassette culture. With the digital release still to come, we're excited to share the premiere of the title track, "I Will Break U" today, a colossal swirling song that once again proves Tape Deck Mountain to be among the best of modern shoegaze.

Led by Travis Trevisan, the trio tend to play with the harsher side of the genre, avoiding the listless pitfalls of dream pop. "I Will Break U" fades into being, splashes of guitar fury rolling in and out like the tide... and then it breaks. The monolithic bass line stings and bleeds over the jagged drums, creating an immovable rhythmic backbone for Trevisan's guitars to wander and permeate every last empty space. The noise ebbs and flows against the warm vocal melody, squealing between the lines and spreading like wildfire as the vocals float by, slowly unfolding as the epic caterwauling builds and destroys all in its path.

Tape Deck Mountain's I Will Break U cassette is out now on Semi-Pro Records with digital to follow. The band are at work on their third full length.
