Brooklyn’s Pippy, who announced their debut self-titled record back in mid-February, are back with a second single “Millionaire,” and an accompanying video out today. Following the energy of “Angelina” , “Millionaire” finds Pippy in fine form. A rollicking tune about the agonies of paying rent, and an attendant fantasy of getting ones hand’s on the landlord, “Millionaire” is a great track and relentlessly catchy. Knotty guitar work and relentless rhythm section back Kaley Honeycutt’s sardonic lyrics about the pain of shuffling away most of ones paycheck to have a place to live. Initially languid and even keeled, the song builds to a cathartic denouement. “Millionaire” is a great tune off of an excellent debut record, and we can’t wait to hear more.
The video, shot by Kelly McGowan, is a fun romp that finds the band living out the fantasy of the chorus, where a landlord-esque fella is finally given a taste of his own extortive medicine. The video, shot in a sunny New York City summer, is a perfect watch in mid-March. How close we are to the joys of summer.
Pippy is out May 15th on Sad Cactus Records and Togo Records.
