Baby Tyler - "Cheap Plastic Coffin" | Post-Trash Premiere

by Dan Goldin (@paintingwithdan)

After years of cutting his teeth with The Hussy, Proud Parents, and Fire Heads, Tyler Fassnacht struck out on his own as Baby Tyler, a one man garage punk wrecking ball. The Madison, Wisconsin based project (which transitions to a blistering five piece band for live shows) thrives on a mix of hardcore, psych boogie, noise rock, and a kitchen sink of discordant influences to create music that’s as aggressive as it is gleefully energetic. There’s a sordid sensibility to it all, but a palpable sense of fun at its core. Recorded together with engineer Graham Hunt, Baby Tyler is set to release Sucker With A Dream, the project’s sixth album in six years, on October 17th via NightBell Records, a set of twelve unapologetic rippers with enormous hooks and reckless charm.

Following last month’s introduction via lead single “The Pressure,” Baby Tyler comes unglued once again with “Cheap Plastic Coffins,” a brain rattling effort played at an all out sprint. With a tempo capable of bursting through concrete walls, Fassnacht wastes no time, digging into the harsh hardcore framework with a feral melody that manages to illuminate unlikely hooks in the acidic tornado of the track. Violent but charismatic, there’s a radiance to “Cheap Plastic Coffin,” a song that hurtles with crusty garage punk disdain and jet-propulsion abandon.
