Out This Week | Post-Trash Highlight

As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.

BESTA QUADRADA | "Besta Quadrada"

Last weekend saw Besta Quadrada release their self titled album, a self-described “bratty hardcore” record, jam packed with caustic rippers and bouncy rhythms. Much like Rotary Club or Judy And The Jerks, the band tear through each buzzing song with a surge of personality, vocalist Bailey’s songwriting equal parts rippling anxiety, bent thoughts, sass, and sarcasm.

CAPPADONNA | "Solar Eclipse"

For all the Wu-Tang diehards that still tune into Cappadonna's deeply underground solo albums, Solar Eclipse is a gem. Arguably his best new record in over a decade, the Shaolin legend is focused on conscious rhymes this round, opting for bars that range from personal to inspirational, with his unique slang ever at the forefront.

THE COWBOYS | "Captain Easy's Downfall"

Bloomington’s favorite ramshackle power-pop band The Cowboys return with their tenth album, Captain Easy’s Downfall, a collection of true freewheelin’ earworms and oddball bliss. As a band that’s steadily been in metamorphosis with each release, they’ve settled into a core of rock ‘n’ rolling and garage pop excess, ripping with the vibes on high.

LAWN | "God Made The Highway"

The latest from New Orleans based duo Lawn is a cavalcade of great ideas and even better songwriting. God Made The Highway is the band's first new full length in five years and the band sound refreshed, pulling at disparate seams, from jangly pop to caustic post-punk with a glowing sense of grace residing between the two. Apparent from the opening twang of "Water" to the jarring burst of "Lonely River Blues," Lawn are out to explore and experiment, and the results are impeccable.

NAPE NECK | "The Shallowest End"

Leeds based trio Nape Neck play with the kind of tension that makes your head feel as though it might explode. One of the tighter and more caustic post-punk bands of this decade, they work in knots that opt to tangle further rather than come undone. It’s really something to behold, a band that has evolved punk into a sponge of brainy rhythmic experimentation. There’s a magical chaos to The Shallowest End, contorting amid locked in grooves and a tidal waves of crashing no wave guitars.
