RNIE is Lamont Brown, a Philly-based artist and music maker. His sophomore LP FULL NEPTUNE is inspired by all things late night Y2K — PS2, Toonami, and a healthy dose of breakbeat. “I wanted this one to feel like a playlist.” says Brown in the FULL NEPTUNE press release. “A love letter to all the things that made me who I am today as an artist, as a person. Skateboarding, anime, and video games (PS2) all go hand and hand for me, their middle place is where this record found its theme.”
Today, Post-Trash is excited to premiere the video for “20K,” which Brown shot and edited himself. While FULL NEPTUNE certainly has a turn of the millennium feel, “20K” fuses the past 30-something years of indie pop and hip-hop into a breezy two minutes. It hits like Nujabes’ soundtrack for Samaurai Champloo, but contains that hazy lo-fi wash of late 2000s indie rock. Check out the video for “20K” below below:
