Out This Week | Post-Trash Highlights

As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.

COMMON HOLLY | "Anything Glass"

Anything Glass is the third album from Montreal's Common Holly (aka singer/songwriter Brigitte Naggar), a tranquil and dreamy record that seems to find the beauty in fragility, the gravity between things big and small. There's a wide array of territory covered throughout, from ambient folk to soft art pop experimentation, the sprawling open landscapes lending themselves to the comfort of the lyrics.

NINA NASTASIA | "Songs For A World Of Trouble"

Three years after Nina Nastasia returned with the ultra personal and heartbreaking Riderless Horse, she's back with the self-released Songs For A World Of Trouble. The EP pairs together intricately layered harmonies and somber reflections with chamber folk and stripped back arrangements that add a great deal of texture of the songs. The all encompassing music feels gentle and protected even as Nastasia weaves a gorgeous mix between the bright and the dreary.

PUFFER | "Street Hassle"

Street Hassle, the full length debut from Montreal's Puffer arrives with reckless punk swagger, hitting like a wrecking ball to a crowded pub. Following the quake of their self-titled EP, the band strike on their full length like lightning in a bottle. Big face melting vocals are howled with melodic bite and garage punk combustion combining to create habit forming party 'til you puke punk. Highly recommended for fans of C.O.F.F.I.N, Split System, and beer guzzling.

PYREX | "Slugman"

La Vida Es Un Mus Discos

Pyrex already released one of the year's best punk records with Body earlier this year, but the NYC based trio continue to decimate with new EP, Slugman. Blending together hardcore, noise rock, and post-punk in a way that feels increasingly violent and harsh, Pyrex bulldoze through four tracks of blistering fury, each paired with sordid hooks and a dexterous sense of brute force.

SLICK RICK | "Victory"

Did anyone have strong expectations for what a new Slick Rick album in 2025 would sound like? Victory, executive produced by Idris Elba, is The Ruler's first new record in twenty six years and well, it's pretty damn good. Slick Rick's flow is timeless and while he's embracing sounds new and old, he's still more often than not in (condensed) story mode, which is always a plus. It's strange to hear his voice over "club banger" type beats, but he's a legend for a reason and this record is a welcome surprise (check out “Landlord” and “Documents”). Does it capture the magic of The Great Adventures? Of course not, but it’s a fun listen either way from a living legend.
