Deady - "Hot Damn" | Post-Trash Premiere

by Dan Goldin (@paintingwithdan)

Louisville’s Deady have been burning up the local scene over the past few years, a band that draws from their hometown’s storied past while forging ahead in their own unique way. For those of us that don’t get the opportunity to see them on a regular basis (or at all), it would seem from their releases that the band has been steadily evolving their sound, from the frenzied post-punk and post-hardcore of their earliest singles and debut EP to last year’s “R.I.P.” which leaned into a sludgier and dare we say more “nu-metal” direction. What comes next is anyone’s guess, but we’ll find out soon enough as the band are getting ready to release 2 Dead 2 Furious, their full length debut, in June. Continuing to stretch their amorphous punk core, “Hot Damn” finds itself rooted in anthemic hardcore.

The track is ruthless and full of the band’s trademark energy and all-in earworms. The hooks are blistering, the riffs are continously shifting, and it’s gritty as a bat spiked with nails. Deady continue to prove they can take any shape they please and “Hot Damn” finds them boiling into a fury. Then there’s the music video… the absolutely incredible music video. The highly cinematic (and very high budget) clip finds the band involved in a futuristic data heist. There’s car chases, one of those bazookas that shoot nets, dart guns, explosives, laser guns… and that’s really only scratching the surface of this one. Directed by Matt Boyle and Chris Monroe of Boyz House Productions, the video is an incredible fit for the song’s ramshackle spirit, a wild ride with a grin plastered from ear to ear.
