Three years after bursting out on the international punk scene Maraudeur are set to release their next full length album, Flaschenträger, a record that zips between frantic post-punk and mesmerizing grooves. Leipzig’s favorite art punk band are pushing beyond the framework they set on Puissance 4, wandering down rabbit holes of contorted psych and motorik weirdness to develop their own freeform take on thought provoking punk. Due out on November 14th via Feel It Records (Optic Sink, Citric Dummies, Why Bother), the band manage to sound both inherently loose and razor sharp, rattled but dialed in.
Following the alien shimmer and irreverence of propulsive lead single “EC Blah.Blah,” the sextet return with “Syncope,” a song that gives way to a more intricate structure, setting the tone with a spacious but kinetic introduction. The song floats on sci-fi tinged synths and a jittery rhythm, pulling back just enough to dive back with added emphasis. The track feels tightly coiled, a knot that reverberates with glorious dissonance and an artistic sense of melody.
Speaking about the song, Lise Sutter shared:
"Syncope is actually an older song formerly with drum-machine, which we re-recorded on this session. The lyrics are playing with the words to sync / to cope / syncope (being a rhythmic musical notation but also a short moment of fainting). It was an attempt to channel some difficult emotions during a heart-ache time. Music helps! <::@)"
