As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.

For a record that seems to stem from a shared love of Lord of the Rings, 80HD's Orc Party is utterly ruthless. While the themes arrive from middle earth, the intensity is blistering over from the filthiest gutters of NYC. This is unhinged hardcore that pushes the extreme at every opportunity, from the rhythmic onslaught to the paint peeling guitar riffs (that dip into heavy psych-tinged hardcore at times) and the harshest of vocals, Orc Party is a wonderful exercist in brain splattering.

For most artists you might expect diminishing returns on their ninth album of the year, but Boldy James isn't most artists. The Detroit MC links up again with Nicholas Craven (also no stranger to prolific release schedules) for their fourth and best collaboration yet, a dynamic record that presents Boldy with a colorful palette of samples to lace with his unflinching narratives. The lyrical giant paints portraits with vivid detail and despite all the rhymes he's spit over the past year (and decade plus before that), his bars still sound hungry, kicked with a perma-stoned nonchalance and a steely focus.

Che Noir and 7xvethegenuis - much like Raekwon and Ghostface or Pusha and Malice - find that sweet spot when paired together. They're both top tier MCs on their own, but Desired Crowns brings out the best in the both of them, a well crafted record of their hardest bars and production that feels tailor-made for the lyrical barrage. Together they make raw underground hip-hop that deserves the flowers of the mainstream, but Che and 7xve continue to carve their own uncompromising path by any means necessary. Here's hoping this collaboration isn't a one off as the two are levitating over the competition.
Dark Descent / Me Saco Un Ojo Records

Spectral Realm of Ruin, the first full length from Seattle's Degraved, stands among the year's best death metal albums, a record that sounds ravaged and ransacked, a colossal distillation of savagery. Void of studio sheen, the quartet are digging into the crypt with the type of caveman terror that comes from seismic low end and impenetrable scuzz. Ain't nothing pretty about this one, a debut that absolutely devours its prey (albeit with nuanced tempos) from one brute moment to the next. Can't recommend it enough.

Hélène Barbier has an incredible knack for contorting the lines between complex and simple. With a visionary approach to art-pop, her arrangements often take the path less explored. Panorama bursts with cosmic beauty and tangled clarity. Throughout the record, Barbier and her collaborators (which include members of Retail Simps, Corridor, and Hand Habits) deftly move been hypnotic repetition, off-kilter rhythms, reshaped lounge jazz, distorted space-age funk, and woozy melodies that pull it all together in the most astounding of ways.
Feel It Records

Maraudeur return with the great Flaschenträger, a record that zips between frantic post-punk and mesmerizing grooves. Leipzig’s favorite art punk band are pushing beyond the framework they set on Puissance 4, wandering down rabbit holes of contorted psych and motorik weirdness to develop their own freeform take on thought provoking punk. Sounding both inherently loose and razor sharp, their music is rattled but dialed in.
Mangel / Swish Swash Records

It's a big week for art punk from Leipzig. ONYON return with Pale Horses, a buoyant new record of amorphous post-punk with songs that feel tightly coiled around dimly glowing melodies. The production feels warm and lived in as the band dig into a spiral of motorik rhythms and enveloping hooks, jangling from one idea to the next in a hypnotic splendor. ONYON experiment with textural ideas to bring the songs to life, from droning harmonica to warped synths, everything finding space in the minimalist structures.

Last year Porridge Radio released a career defining album and then announced they were calling it a day following their remaining tour dates. Those dates are still happening, but with the end in sight, the London based group share Pieces Of Heaven: Live at the Centre Pompidou capturing the band as they say farewell at the height of their collective brilliance. We're still sad to see them go, but thankful for one more glimpse into the heart of their majestic and earnest songs.
Sad Cactus

Brooklyn's Rose of the World join forces with the great Sad Cactus Records (Jinzo, Algae Dust, Pond 1000) for the release of their debut album, Heaven Is A Broken Heart. If the title doesn't paint a picture for you, the band's music will, a dynamic blend of post-hardcore, alternative rock, and emo that recalls the best of Sunny Day Real Estate while forging their own distorted path forward.

If you like your death metal on the deeply progressive end of the spectrum, there's few that do it quite like Ramona, CA's Voidceremony. Abditum, the band's latest, strikes like a serpent with a million heads, both brutally vicious and technically stunning as the band weave a labyrinth of riffs and rhythms in constant motion. The musicianship is profoundly tight, twisting and turning on a dime toward an endless void that's always around yet another corner. Subtlety be damned, let Voidceremony rip.
