As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.
There's no stopping The Alchemist, quite possibly the most celebrated producer in modern hip-hop. "Uncle Al" is back spitting bars on The Genuine Articulate, a new EP featuring Action Bronson, Conway The Machine, Havoc, and more. ALC's beats have a laid back ease which matches his lyrical delivery, his rhymes a hazy but focused stream of conscious that jabs while floating.

It would seem that Alien Nosejob can do wrong. A perennial favorite around these parts, Jake Robertson returns with Turns The Colour of Bad Shit, a glorious ripper of a record with dense synth wizardry and plenty of shredding guitars. All of the signature charm and unfiltered chaos you've come to expect from Alien Nosejob when in unglued rock 'n' roll mode.
Goodbye Boozy

Cincinnati synth-punk mutants BEEF are back with Il Manzo, a new 7" EP on the great Goodbye Boozy. The band don't waste a moment, wriggling and stampeding through four jittery tracks that sound like slime moving in fast forward, a new highlight from the young band (which features Sam Richardson of Feel It Records).

Big Ups were a national treasure, an acerbic and brilliant punk band that always felt unique and captivating. Celebrating the ten year anniversary of their full length debut, the band have released Eighteen Hours Of Static (Hxπ Decoded), a new remix album reimagined by This Is Lorelei, Sad13, Rebecca Ryskalczyk, Twice Eyes, Maneka, Lost Boy ?, Big Ups’ own Amar Lal, and more. While remix albums can be cause for concern for some punk fans, Big Ups would never let you down.

The Carp (mems Cruelster, Knowso, Perverts Again) share their debut album, Knock Your Block Off, a clamoring record of ragged punk songs with a sardonic agitation. There's a harshness to the delivery, willingly causing trouble as they prod and skewer all in their path via raw punk minimalism. Punchy and short tempered, The Carp keep it snarky yet delightfully weird.
Maggot Stomp

After five long years, Portland death metal quintet Coffin Rot return with their brutal new full length, Dreams of the Disturbed. Sludgy, violent, and impenetrably heavy, their latest is chaotic and menacing, shifting from skull cracking intensity to slow oozing putridity without warning as they demolish and slaughter, rising above the crumbled ruins.
Lulu's Sonic Disc Club

Sydney's G2G make minimalist post-punk that's radiant with charm and their fiery sense of humor. Today sees the release of their full length debut, The Gherkin, a record that builds upon simple pop structures to create something locked in and surging, bouncing between repetition and a garage punk riffs. The more you listen, the better it gets, and we can't stop listening.

There's a lot of modern shoegaze out there, perhaps too much, but don't fault LA's Mo Dotti, one of the genre's best and brightest. Following some increasingly great EPs, the band release Opaque, their tremendously visceral yet dreamy full length debut. Noisy with a psychedelic haze, the band peel and obliterate through sweet melodies and blanketed pop damage.
Dear Life Records

There’s always been a visionary spark to Nina Ryser’s (Palberta) music. Her solo efforts have captured a discordant pop chaos, a fusion of raw minimalist recordings and vibrant unfiltered songs. Water Giants, her first for Dear Life Records, moves away from the bedroom fidelity, embracing the added radiance of the studio, without sterilizing Ryser’s sound. Her songs have never sounded better, the dynamic textures glistening with harmonic nuances.

Pearl & The Oysters’ music shines like the sun, shimmering and sweltering. The LA based duo have been cranking out the hits over the last few years, maintaining their mutant art pop sound while exploring the breezy touches of tropicália, warped funk, space-age lounge jazz, and the cosmic beyond. Planet Pearl revolves around that “alien” nature of their sugar sweet sound, an album that imagines the duo as extraterrestrial life stranded here on Earth.
Bayonet Records
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Three years after the release of her last album, Chicago based singer/songwriter Tasha returns with All This And So Much More, a gorgeous new album that seems to center around growth and love. A confident set of songs with a graceful immediacy, her first for Bayonet feels like the dawning of a new day, nothing is promised but anything is possible.
