A year after their self-titled album, Pittsburgh's Ex Pilots return with Motel Cable, a blistering shoegaze record that swerves between swarming attack, woozy lo-fi, and shimmering pop. The band stay within an aesthetic, but swing wildly from the pendulum, proving to be adept at fuzz of all varieties.

Fake Fruit's debut album was an astounding statement of how vibrant post-punk could sound, and Mucho Mistrust has upped the ante. A record that seems to highlight growth during trying times, the Oakland art punk band move in all directions, their tightly wound punk turning toward the melodic and the abrasive, mining disco repetition and no-wave clamor in equal measure.

New Jersey's Gel have become one of hardcore's rare crossover bands that still feels interested in making actual hardcore music. Sure, it's freaky at times and produced in shimmering high fidelity, and it's all the better for both of those things. Persona swings for the fences, dismantling the bullshit, one monsterous riff at a time (see: "Vanity").

Horse Jumper of Love need no introduction at this point, they've been one of modern slowcore's best bands for damn near a decade. Disaster Trick finds the band expanding (and occasionally contracting) their range, leaning into grainy shoegaze at times, and opting for sludgy pop beauty at others on a record that feels direct and present.

Bubblegum is considered by many to be the late great Mark Lanegan's solo masterpiece. Recorded together with his Queens of the Stone Age cohorts, the album has received an expanded reissue, and the extra content is well worth tuning in for. Bubblegum XX's third disc is comprised of unreleased material, including intimate hotel room recordings captured by Troy Van Leeuwen and a stunning collaboration with Beck.
Melt-Banana are back! Nine years after the release of Fetch, the Tokyo based duo return with 3+5, and the year's have done nothing to dampen their chaotic creativity. One of the world's most innovate noise rock bands, the band still come in with the subtlety of a tornado and yet 3+5 is still brimming with unconventional hooks, true Melt-Banana magic.

Palehound's first live album captures El Kempner solo and acoustic, an intimate performance captured while touring with Adrianne Lenker in 2021. It's a showcase for Kempner's profound writing and easy to love personality, the strength of the songs appearing in full splendor even with minimal embellishment.

Champion, the latest full length from Norway's Pom Poko sounds something like a distillation of pure joy. A punk band at heart, the band are like a beacon of light, their sound complex and vibrant, overloaded with whimsy without the trappings of most "twee" music. Wonky and progressive, their detached pop is rattling with bliss.
Lame-O Records

Slippers, the new solo project of LA's Madeline BB (Le Pain), arrives with a dreamy power-pop perfection on So You Like Slippers? The record is so triumphantly crafted that you'd be forgiven for thinking you've been listening to these songs your whole life. Dripping with melancholy in a way that sounds shimmering, it's one solid gold smash hit after the next.

Following a three year break, NYC's Snakeskin return with Summoning Suit, a gorgeous record that softens the pallet of Snake's songs but retains every ounce of her impeccable songwriting. With an electronic tint and swirling atmospheres, Snakeskin brings us along for a stunning ride that's deeply nuanced, dynamic, and dreamy.

The output of Vermont's Wren Kitz has been known to veer between warm psych folk and field recordings, depending on the release. The Thinker is his first in "songwriter" territory in four years, and it's a gorgeously reflective record, composed with open space and a natural lyrical grace. Drift out and let it pull you in.
