As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all “tweet sized,” kept brief in the tradition of our old new release thread. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are but some of the many we think you should check out.

Only Death Is Eternal, the third record from Singapore's Doldrey, finds the band perfecting their particularly brutal blend of death metal, thrash, and crusty hardcore. The production is triumphantly raw, but there's a clarity to the carnage, the performances are as tight as they are unapologetically filthy. From the depths of depravity oozes a well-crafted and exceptionally dynamic demonic fury.

Easthampton's Fred Cracklin are back with another wonderfully discordant odyssey into free jazz and noise punk dexterity on "There's A River Between Us," the duo's contribution to a new album length split with Canada's i.o & Colin Fisher. Both sides are wildly immersive and unpredictable, a cavalcade of earthquaking rhythms (each drummer is beyond mesmerizing) and abrasive guitar freakouts capable of rattling our brains to dust.

J.R.C.G. has been pushing boundaries since the project’s inception. Led by Justin R. Cruz Gallego, the band’s debut was groundbreaking. Three years later they return with Grim Iconic...(Sadistic Mantra), continuing to expand into the further reaches of the cosmic unknown amid cascading drums, hypnotic charm, and off-kilter tension that grooves and contorts between warped melodic hooks.

Expanding upon last year's much praised Michael LP, Killer Mike returns with its companion, Songs For Sinners & Saints, released as Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival, a collaborative album with his touring gospel choir. Sharp, reflective, and focused with soulful production, the surprise record is among Killer Mike's best, an album overloaded with thoughtful yet hard-nosed lyricism and harsh realism.
Memoirs in Armour isn't really a "first impression" kind of album. Navy Blue's latest, which finds him once again an independent artist, feels intended for deep listening, his tightly wound rhymes demanding to be unpacked in time. One of hip-hop's more brilliant lyricists, Sage Elsesser keeps a casual flow even as his words travel beyond, drifting more often than not into the existential. The first listen is great, but each repeat should prove increasingly profound.

We may not be living in medieval times anymore, but the remnants of feudalism are still clawing into modern life. With revolution in the air, Philadelphia’s Poison Ruïn return, swinging the axe for everyone struggling under the weight of oppression. Confrere, the band's new EP, is here to rally the disenfranchised, staying true to their damp-as-a-dungeon fidelity. The record is dense and thudding, splintering with piercing guitars and murky production.
