A growing concern for the past decade, Austin’s Leche combine irreverent cowpunk, swarming noise rock, and a sordid sense of humor to create the most deranged music Texas has seen since The Butthole Surfers and Cherubs. With a rampant sneer and blistering feedback often leading the way, the band’s acerbic grit has become more focused over the years, thrashing like a rodeo dust storm. Last year the band released Gas Powered Guillotine, a tremendous EP that dug into sludge and twangy country fried hardcore, the raw sonic assault matched by the band’s unique comedic inclinations.
“Ernest Kills His Landlord,” the band’s new single arrives ahead of their upcoming east coast tour dates, our first preview of Leche’s upcoming album, Miracle Whip-It, due out later this fall via Digital Hotdogs. The tightly wound song coils itself into scrappy dust-ups, the southern charm delivered extra thick and brilliantly damaged. With a subject matter that you can’t help but love, the band dive into mathy twang and a mutated square dance boogie.
Speaking about the song, the band shared:
“Ernest Kills His Landlord is a direct sequel to Ernest Goes to Camp. The film’s antagonist, mining corporation owner Sherman Krader, has won an appeal after paying off a judge. He now seeks revenge through defaming Ernest by using LSD and hypnosis techniques gained from paying off FBI agents. Sherman Krader intends to hypnotically suggest that Ernest killed his landlord.”
