As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all “tweet sized,” kept brief in the tradition of our old new release thread. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are but some of the many we think you should check out.

As Broadcast approach the end of their archival releases, the band share Spell Blanket - Collected Demos 2006-2009, capturing Trish Keenan’s 4-track recordings, once intended to become the band’s next album prior to her tragic passing. A fascinating look at ideas both fleshed out and minimally realized.

Dead Finks, the Berlin based post-punk band led by Erin Violet and Joseph Thomas share their third album Eve of Ascension, a wiry and corrosive record with sharp turns and a focused burn. This is tremendously written post-punk, raw but memorable, grim punk that's still packed with hooks.

Sydney garage punk greats GEE TEE return with Prehistoric Chrome, a collection of raw, jittery, and agitated lo-fi punk tunes written between 2018 and 2023 with nasty solos and ragged hyper-charged hooks that feel as deviant as they are combustible. The debut release on Erik Nervous' Nailbiter Records.

New York City's Lightning Bug share No Paradise, a beautiful record built on heartfelt folk and lush alternative rock. Audrey Kang's voice is both strong and world weary, her emotions given range throughout the expansive nature of the album (with nods to everything from haunting country to noise pop).

Fresh off last year's Noise Kandy 5, Rome Streetz returns with the Wavy Da Ghawd produced Buck 50 EP, a short and sweet collection of six new hard hitting hip-hop songs, void of features and (mostly) eschewing hooks in favor of raw lyricism and hard nosed street rhymes.

Seven years after their second album, Brighton post-hardcore weirdos Vincent Vocoder Voice return with Sinthomies, a heavy new album with a sense of brutality in distortion that at times feels akin to Drive Like Jehu. The band's penchant for long winding lyrics remains something to behold.
12XU

Winged Wheel, the hypnotic krautrock and experimental psych collective (that includes mems of Spray Paint, Matchess, Tyvek, etc) reconvene with an expanded line-up (Steve Shelley! Lonnie Slack!) for Big Hotel, an immersive and adventurous second album that explores open landscapes and impeccable grooves.
