As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all “tweet sized,” kept brief in the tradition of our old new release thread. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are but some of the many we think you should check out.

Minneapolis' Bermuda Squares (mems Retainers, Citric Dummies,Green/Blue) release their debut album Outsider, hitting the ground running (it actually sounds like it was already playing the moment it begins). It's a punk ripper that blends giant riffs, tightly coiled post-punk, and delightfully legless melodies.

Beth Gibbons needs no introduction. Twenty two years after the release of her collaborative album with Rustin Man, the Portishead singer goes solo on the stunning Lives Outgrown, a showcase for her crystalline voice and haunting compositions. Gibbons explores aging and time with a deft grace and orchestral precision.
Neon Taste / Static Shock Records

Bootlicker, the Canadian hardcore band known for their blistering d-beat stampede return with 1000 Yard Stare, a fast and primal record that aims its indignation at the avalanche of modern injustice. This is no frills punk that rattles forward like a freight-train, filled with disdain for the military industrial complex.

Everyone loves Crumb. The New York based psych pop band return with their third album AMAMA, a gorgeous deep dive into their languid world of jazzy rock and experimental pop textures. They've expanded their palette to embrace electronic touches while evolving the wispy dissociative quality of their music.

No True Silence feels like the D. Sablu album we've all been waiting for, a swarming punk record that swings for the fences, embracing hardcore, post-punk, sleazy rock ‘n’ roll, blown out skate punk, and beyond. The New Orleans based band are surging with energy at every moment, exploring their propulsive sound with a nuanced combustion.
Upset The Rhythm

Vancouver's Earth Ball share their debut album, It's Yours, a searing blast of improvised no-wave and blistering psych rock on the avant-garde end of the spectrum. Impossibly noisy and abrasive, the result is immersive and hypnotic, jazzy and damaged, textured with scuzz, repetition, and motorik debauchery.
Nuclear Blast

Arizona death metal juggernauts Gatecreeper return with the long awaited Dark Superstition, pairing their signature brutality and sludgy grooves with a melodic turn (at times reminiscent of Dismember). It's a big shift but the band haven't abandoned the oozing and violent density and apocalyptic dread they've built their sound upon.
Following a slew of EPs and collaborations, the enigmatic Mach-Hommy returns with #Richaxxhaitian, his first new solo record since 2021. As one of hip-hop's great visionaries, it feels as though Mach has been patiently observing and building this record, a masterclass of shifting style where Mach's pristine delivery remains the constant.
Silver Current Records

Wondrous, majestic, and fantastical, Magic Fig’s debut rarely feels of these times, and it’s all the better for it, an ever shifting kaleidoscope, the shapes all recognizable yet refracted in mirrored splendor. It’s a decidedly pop odyssey that wanders deep into the woods of late 60’s prog, Moog altered psych, and dream pop at its most visionary.
Touch and Go Records
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
As the world mourns the profound loss of the legendary Steve Albini, Shellac returns with To All Trains, their first album in a decade. Still every bit as brilliant as it is abrasive, taut, and prickly, the band mix their deadpan humor and sardonic nature to great effect over tangled and mangled minimalist post-hardcore.
Permanent Residence
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Perth based hardcore band Sooks release their full length debut, Moral Decay, a record of stampeding tempos, buzzsaw guitars, and lyrical indignation. It's a furious album about fighting for your beliefs, keeping the rage lit for all those oppressed. Ange's dynamic vocals shift between grizzly and nimble throughout the righteous ripper.
