On their aptly-titled new single "Sharpest Edge," Brooklyn punks Family Vision present a hard hitting left turn of a banger. Progressing from the prickly no wave inspired punk of their last full length Chop Shop, the quartet lean harder into the sticky pop hooks of that record, seamlessly combining the melodic elements with sharp, darting guitar lines.
Kabir Kumar-Hardy's insistent staccato vocal delivery perfectly matches the forward momentum of the pulsing guitars and drums propelling everything to a boiling point. "What's it mean to be numb?" he asks. "I can't feel it at all, but I know it hurts," he answers himself. Family Vision are unafraid to question themselves, even if the answers aren't pretty. "What's it mean to be perfect? / I wish that I could be perfect / Like a TV model," he adds to his original question, wishing for something unattainable that still somehow feels expected. Family Vision somehow make harsh truths sound inviting. Blending both sides of their sound into a cohesive mix of earworms and hard hitting punk sounds, "Sharpest Edge" hits all the right buttons and feels satisfying and fresh in its delivery. Their measured progression teases the prospect of something even greater than what their impressive back catalog of releases have offered thus far.
