As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all kept brief and bite sized, snippets to catch your interest. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are just some of the many we think you should check out.

Ugly, brutal, punishing, and repetitive, Big'n, legends of early 90s noise rock, have returned. Following an EP in 2018, End Comes Too Soon is their first new full length in nearly thirty years, and they haven't lost an ounce of their ultra heavy minimalist depravity. Big'n are still an impenetrable juggernaut of low end density, their music forever deranged and thudding.
Backwoodz Studioz

Following the April release of Different Type Time, Cavalier's first for Backwoodz Studioz, the Brooklyn via New Orleans MC is back at it, teaming up with producer Child Actor for a new joint effort, CINE. With immaculately composed beats, Cavalier is able to wax poetic, his lyrics part street noir and part acid jazz. The pair are locked in on a cinematic hip-hop voyage, the trip hazy and relaxed, yet built with an attention to detail.
Upset The Rhythm / Hobbies Galore

Four years after the release of Shimmering Basset, Melbourne’s The Green Child make their triumphant return with Look Familiar. Still led by the duo of Raven Mahon (Grass Widow, Rocky) and Mikey Young (Total Control, ECSR), the band are now a quartet, reaching into the glorious experimental pop void. Blending dreamy synth pop, krautrock, and warm psychedelic bliss, the album is wondrous and full of splendor.
Lame-O Records

Vermont based songwriter Lily Seabird released the great Alas, back in January, a personal album of raw folk songs that are delicate but dynamic. Since then she’s joined the Lame-O roster to reissue that record, in the process she’s added a collection of acoustic songs from Alas, and beyond. The recordings are close and intimate, stripped to their dazzling core.

There is but one Mammoth Grinder and we’re still celebrating the Austin band’s triumphant return. Undying Spectral Resonance has been unleashed, proving once again that there’s magic in the putridity of their death metal meets d-beat punk sound. Short and sweet, the band quake with cavernous grooves, death metal dexterity, and the weedian pocket of a d-beat stampede.
Quiet Panic

MUGGER, the hardcore band formed by members of Creepoid and Radioactivity are slugging it out on their full length debut, Luck Forever, a resonant punk record with touches of psych bubbling beneath the surface. The album is blown out and crackling with swarming sustain, the searing aggression matched with wall of sound fuzz and knuckle dragging force.
Self Released
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Austin's Queen Serene introduced themselves last year with their exceptional self-titled debut, a propulsive blend of bent shoegaze, nuanced art punk, and dreamy textural drifts. Wasting no time, the band return with 2, a new EP that expands their sonic pallet in all directions from the violently distorted to the tranquil and well... serene. It’s a dynamic release from a band that’s still very much exploring (in the best of ways).
La Vida Es Un Mus Discos / D4MT Labs Inc
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Among the deluge of post-punk bands, Straw Man Army stand among the modern greats, the NYC duo's music and caustic lyrics are well coiled yet razor sharp on their latest socio-political themed album, Earthworks. There's a sense of brilliant depravity to their songs, weaving and tangling amid their own shuffling rhythms to prod and smirk at our failed society. With an animated howl and taut riffs, STA remind us, "America, it's not a country, it' a business".
