Styrofoam Winos - "Magic Mind" Video | Post-Trash Premiere

by Dan Goldin (@post_trash_)

Nashville’s Styrofoam Winos have an impeccable chemistry, a trio of songwriters that bring out the best in each other, sharing in individual ideas made collaborative. Joe Kenkel, Trevor Nikrant, and Lou Turner are all established musicians in their own right, great songwriters with radiant capability. Together however, the band are able to focus in on their ideas, bringing each other’s songs to life in new shapes on their second album, Real Time. It’s a record bolstered by the strength of community with the personality of the individuals in tact. Released via Sophomore Lounge Records (Ned Collette, Animal Piss, It’s Everwhere, Coffin Prick), the record finds the band in homespun harmony, their eclectic brand of folk, alt-country, “college rock,” and Americana in pristine DIY form.

“Magic Mind,” one of the record’s brightest shining moments, fuses together country twang with a melodic power-pop glue. It’s the kind of song you want to belt out among friends on a hot day with cold drinks. As they ask “where are the beans from your magic vine,” you can’t help but smile, jangling in the deep South charm. The video matches the good spirited vibe of the song to perfection, capturing the band as they head on down to the local baseball diamond to serve as the grounds crew. They clean the field and stands with eager smiles and a sense of joy until they luckily happen upon some guitars and a drum… and the baseball game can finally begin.
