Philadelphia-based quartet Phil Spector’s Gun is making raw and riffy rock n roll music. Fronted by Kevin Brusha, alongside guitarist Charlie Bones (also of Mt. Mostly), drummer Zack Bowan (also of Bad History Month), and bassist Sean Clark (also of Curse Reverser), they’ve been performing live for a few years now, and their studio debut Highway 61 Exploded is due out November 3rd via BLIGHT. Records.
Lead-off single “Threads of Disloyalty” sounds garage-y to the point that I wouldn’t be that surprised if I found out it was actually tracked in a garage, although the fidelity is fortunately much better than most of the live bootlegs that they have on their Bandcamp. It’s not necessarily a thrasher, with its more moderate pace, but it stomps hard enough to shake any room. Brusha starts out with a dejected talk-singing style, but in the second verse he starts shrieking out that he’ll “cut your threads of disloyalty.” The band is able to get a lot out of what’s basically just one riff, and it makes for an incredibly satisfying three-minutes of headbanging.
