Proun - "Form" | Album Review

by Jade Winings (@jadewinings)

Fans of artists such as Cat Power, Phoebe Bridgers, and Snail Mail will absolutely love the new Texas-grown project Proun. The project recently released their debut EP, Form, contributing to the freshness of evolving spring. Jamie Weed’s first single drop "I’m Your Eyes" contains the other two tracks' combination of musical elements all-in-one, creating the incredible curiosity of how the EP would continue its sound. Through dreamy guitar plucking and wispy vocal melodies, Form presents listeners with three tracks strongly representing the newfound presence of Proun.

“Exit The Room” starts the EP off with an absolute-ripper of an opening guitar riff before bleeding into Weed’s melodic lullaby of a chorus. The title "Exit The Room” can be correlated to the feeling of exiting your body during dissociation/depersonalization which is reflected upon during the track, expressing the effects of "life spent on a different plane.” Weed explains through her lyricism; acting tough to compartmentalize emotion will leave you just as unsatisfied as you would be crying through it all.

Alongside the written reflections of coping, "Something I Remember" produces a rush of euphoric endorphins through soft wind-instruments and bells surrounding the sugary memories Weed shares with us. Crashing cymbals fuel the words of bliss and bittersweet feelings of being left with unforgettable memories after departure. The track will bring you back to your own memories of feeling the warmth in love you may have forgotten about, and that is something worth indulging in.

The EP proves Proun is worth keeping up with, and you only need one track to bring you to this realization. Form is a new dose of soft-girl indie music which listeners will be excited to share only to create more anticipation for what Jamie Weed serves next.
