Deady - "Deady" | Album Review

by Jade Winings (@jadewinings)

Deady brings a fresh sonic expression of throwing a middle finger to the system through their lyrics taunting ACAB on one of the more punk rock albums to be released this year. The band introduced themselves to streaming services through the adrenaline rush of their first release “Knock”. Deady’s hard drums and signature spunky vocals capture attention instantaneously, creating the pathway to shining light on significant events society should never forgive and forget, such as the Breonna Taylor tragedy ending only with a $12M lawsuit in exchange for injustice towards unforgivable violence. Mandy Keathley mocks the mindless men in uniforms with lyrics “Oops I missed a shot I think” and establishes the reminder of the injust with “12 Millions all that she’ll cost”. If “Knock” isn’t an adrenaline rush of a debut for the band's introduction for you, it’s untold what could make you flinch.

The following single release “Eat Sleep” locked in the assured consistency of certified bangers to follow, a track which perfectly sets the scene a of generational divide and its effects on the future timeline of humanity. “Eat Sleep” is a blunt example of what makes people want to “eat the rich,” which widely sprouts from the continuous fight of being put down for calling out ongoing detrimental issues of coked-out hypocrites not leading by example. “Have a Bad Time” eases us into the album as the beginning track,  which could be said to be the most “fun” track as it is surrounded by the description of an ironic good time featuring too much vodka leading to walking dirty streets. Deady unfolds into further exposure of greed and blindness while also holding the right to being an album you enjoy simply because of the hex-girl whining and electrifying strings.

Deady has been gaining momentum through live shows the past two years, which have been rumored to be confrontational and wildly energetic. If you are a fan of L7, Garbage, Veruca Salt, and hating the government, Deady is the new band for you.
