Cincinnati’s Corker first introduced themselves with A Bell That Seems To Mourn, their debut EP, released in the Fall of 2021 via Future Shock. It was a collection of four concise post-punk songs that radiated with promise and immediacy, pulling from their hometown peers (The Drin, Crime of Passing), while opting to create punk with a bit more bite in the razor sharp guitars and punchy rhythms. Over the holiday break Feel It Records (Flea Collar, Smirk, Delivery) announced the signing of a trio of Cincinnati bands - The Drin (whom they share members with), BEEF, and of course Corker, who are set to release their full length debut album later this Summer. Before that however, we’re treated to a new single to coincide with the band’s upcoming tour dates (see below).
“Lice,” our first peak into their first LP, is a jagged ripper, bouncing around an upbeat that stabs between the locked-in rhythms. Corker dart us around in circles, pinging off the walls in sheer post-punk glory, with the riffs and the stop/start nature of the vocals keeping everything well off-center. It’s a big groove but there’s still plenty of aggression to be found as they dig into the scraping bass and the somewhat harsh bark of the vocals. It feels instantly alive, pushing our sensibilities down a stair case and reveling in the lack of balance. Another great addition to the impossibly wonderful Feel It Records roster, we’re excited to hear what else Corker have coming.
