For the past fews years The Mall have been finding the sweet spot between electronic music and punk. The St. Louis based duo take it a bit further than most synth punk bands, with full blown electronic grooves and deep bass, the kind that sounds enormous blasting from a club speaker. They’ve amassed themselves an ever growing cult following and it’s easy to see why as they combine punk and dance music in a way that subverts industrial, opting for their own alien hybrid. The group’s sophomore album, Time Vehicle Earth (and it’s incredible album art courtesy of Ibayarifin), is due out October 7th via Fixed Grin, with vinyl pre-orders launching this Friday, September 9th.
Following the album’s detached and disorienting lead single “Deconstruction,” the band offer us another glimpse into the mechanized void with their latest, “Nostalgia”. The swarming pulse of song is built on moody synths and minimal notes, pounding with a mesmerizing sense of dread as the band’s Mark Plant reminds of “the death of luxury“ and “time you won’t get back”. Everything rumbles, scrapping the lowest depths of the sonic scope and ascending from there with immersive repetition amid a tough as nails dance song. Feel free to smile though, The Mall is dredging through the electronic sludge to bring you the good times.
