Sometimes the beginning is a long time coming. Slipping, a new band from Seattle, has slowly been forming over the past four years, and they’ve just now reached their beginning, with a self-titled debut EP on the way November 11th, and their first show in a week’s time (September 24th at Jules Maes). While there has been some line-up changes along the way, they trio has found their core with Joel Parmer (guitar/vocals), Gabby Hoffman (bass/vocals), and Kai Brozovich (drums/vocals). In anticipation of their EP , Slipping introduce themselves by sharing the record’s expansive first single, “So Long”. Recorded over the Summer, “So Long” stands as the centerpiece of their debut, a passionate show of slowcore dynamics and resonating vocals.
Slipping set the tone for what’s the come with a slow picked introduction and crisp production, easing into the verse’s closely layered melodic touches. The progression is a slow build, working it’s way ever further into the catharsis as they work through tension toward the crescendo’s release. The lyrics questions themes of legitimacy and futility, opening with “Nothin’ ever changes, am I just complaining too much, about inevitable truths” before repeatedly coming back to the realization of “there’s so much to do”.
