Quelle Chris - "DEATHFAME" | Album Review

by Charles Davis

Quelle Chris exists as an enigma, at least along any broader contextual form. Whilst full of contemporaries, there are very few peers who operate along such a diverse razor's edge. In an unparalleled uniqueness, a melodious soulfulness (plucked fresh from the garden), and a flow so cesium it melts the relative time/space, there is only one Quelle Chris; only one singular individual whomst could've produced such a semblance of melancholy pomposity - only one masterful jack of all audial trades - as such is this newest Mello Music Group release, DEATHFAME.

With what explores worlds within worlds through a framework both broad and specific, macro and micro, topical and introspective, DEATHFAME is riddled in an intense suspense, as one awaits a new surprise around every corner. The formula is the experimentation; each piece its own abyss of expression, individual to that dimensional beingness. Mellifluous jazz piano cuts, abstract musique concrete, and the hypnosis of the headnod manifest cosmically esoteric psionic planes. The humanity of lyrics and vocalization maintain that totem which remains so important on such journeys - a semblance of home, in all its beautiful and grotesque lineaments.

"If heaven's got a ghetto, hell's got a resort”

This dual dose of numinal consciousness and mortal tangibility offer both adventure and comfort, with one naturally wishing for more, yet accepting of the end's consequential nothingness. If given the ability - if desiring further expanse - play DEATHFAME on repeat (for full effect). This is a true gem amidst the larger bounty of Quelle Chris creations, as well as the broader, always-incredible Mello Music Group framework - this is a gift that keeps on giving; the groove that moves the cosmos. Ultimately, Quelle Chris offers that often sought after conduit to divine energy, emitting the rays of creativity in whatever quest he ventures upon (the more adventurous the better). DEATHFAME pushes and maneuvers into that wild frontier, challenging us on our own realities and phantasmagorias.
