Three years ago Eerie Wanda, the solo project of Marina Tadic, released her second album, Pet Town, a stunning mix of twee punk and psychedelic pop, built on songs that were both willingly lo-fi and brilliantly minimal. In the years since, Tadic has been busy with her band Kidbug, who released a full length and an EP in 2020 and 2021, respectively. This year however marks the return of Eerie Wanda, but like much of her career to date, Tadic is once again taking a shift in her sound. Internal Radio, due out September 23rd via Joyful Noise Recordings (Deerhoof, Tropical Fuck Storm, Oneida), pulls away some of the buoyancy and breeziness of her past work, instead opting for something shadowier, with heavy keys and smoky atmospherics. Tadic’s sound is still utterly dreamy, but her music has shifted from day dreams to the dark of night deep sleep dreams. Sultry, surreal, and dissociative.
“Sail To The Silver Sun” is the album’s first single and opening track, a perfect introduction to Eerie Wanda’s new vision, cutting through the fog with a heavy piano progression and anthemic synths. There’s a 80’s romanticism to the song’s slinking melody, delivered with stunning detachment, the embodiment of Lynchian dream-pop and artistic lounge croon. It’s free to glide at it’s own pace, with the slow moving piano chords setting tone and tempo. It’s safe to say that Eerie Wanda is getting a bit more “eerie”. The video captures a small child walking through the woods with a watering can, eventually transitioning into Tadic as the sun shines behind the trees.
Speaking about the song, Tadic shared, “I'm very excited to share the first song of Internal Radio, the third Eerie Wanda album which I recorded and produced at home with the amazing Kramer. This album is different than anything else I've made. I think I have entered a new chapter. Hope you enjoy."
