If you can remember back to February (and you should be able to), Baltimore duo Caution released a new self-titled EP together with Born Yesterday Records (Spirits Having Fun, Mesh, Landowner). It’s a landmark of noise pop propulsion, stoned harmonies, and dreamy atmospherics. Each song hits with memorable hooks and sharp melodic earworms, as evident on early singles “Buy My Life” and the blissed out beauty of “Swallow”. Seven months later and the band are here with your reminder to keep listening to their record, over and over again until the song’s sound like second nature (which they will), courtesy of a new video for “Act Rich”.
Directed by Will Riley, the clip finds Caution’s Nora Button living a secluded life, swaying together with her guitar in an open field, amid the bushes, and at home. The video captures a sense of loneliness and maybe a touch of boredom in long shots and slow movement. It’s a great accompaniment to the song’s dream cycle melodies and 80’s inspired rhythms, removing you from this world into one more tranquil, lush, and altogether quieter. It’s a place to explore reactions and relationships, to wander around in your mind.
