June Gloom is the solo project of Jesse Paller, a New York based musician and sound engineer. His records and steeped in indie rock traditionalism, but his songwriting is always impactful. Following a split release with Rock Solid back in 2018, June Gloom is here again with Destructive Children, a new full length due out on October 1st. There’s an ever present sense of longing in Paller’s music, but it’s often in reflection, a looking back on times passed and coming to terms in a new light. There’s plenty of heart in his writing, with relatable themes and soft melodies. Destructive Children is the culmination of five years of songwriting, a closing of one chapter as another one begins.

“TV Show,” the album’s lead single rides a very steady, hypnotic, chord progression into thoughts on a personal relationship, one that takes on the feeling of watching a scripted show, void of change and often predictable. The song feels dejected but never broken, coming from a sensibility that the dust has settled and life on the other side of the dust is… well, better. It’s a tone that June Gloom often takes, one of heartbreak gone by, with new sights set toward the tropics.
