You may or may not already know that we consider Thank among the absolute best and most exciting bands making music over in the UK. The Leeds based quartet have released two phenomenal EPs and a split single since their inception and now those kind gents have compiled all their releases thus far into one collection, Thankology. The physical portion of the releases is due out July 1st, but the digital is available now, and we’d strongly advise you give this band your hard earned Bandcamp dollars, as you relive the magic that is their uniquely alien brand of noise rock and art punk. Thank make music their own way, blending heavy rhythms with deranged synths and an ever present howl that’s thick on the lyrical sarcasm. To put it really simple, it’s fucking brilliant and we can never get enough.
In celebration of the release (which will eventually be proceeded by the band’s full length debut), Thank are sharing a new video for Please stand-out “Commemorative Coin,” directed by the band’s own Theo Gowans and Freddy Vinehill-Cliff. When money is of no object, might as well make a video built entirely on £20 note artwork (the money is fake, but it would be cool to get one in circulation), moving with the out of time rhythm. The song’s wonderfully anti-religious lyrics involve god watching married couples have sex… and enjoying every minute of it. It’s clearly tongue-in-cheek, and it’s pretty darn hilarious. The sonic elements of the song are pushed into the red with pitch-shifted electronics that give the deranged framework for Vinehill-Cliff to really let loose, reminding us “my god is a vengeful god, my god is a handsome god,” which all the sardonic bite one song can possibly muster.
