There’s a great chance that you are familiar with Julia Leiby’s work as an in-demand photographer, whether you realize it or not, they have probably shot press photos for some of your favorite artists. When not taking pictures though, Leiby makes exceptional music as Julian. They released Real Distance back in 2018 with Fire Talk Records and followed it up last year with the “Stay” single. Now Leiby and their bandmates Brendan Principato, Abbie Jones, and Drew Sher are ready to return with Longing, a brand new EP, due out February 26th. The band recently shared lead single “She Follows” and we’re excited to share another preview of the record, the album opener, “Out There.”

The Philadelphia based quartet’s sound is definitely built on the framework and sincerity of bedroom pop, but make no mistake about fragility here, Julian’s music is well rooted in indie fuzz and maybe a touch of early 90’s dream-pop. Leiby is a gifted songwriter in the sense that their music sounds universally accessible even with a strong sense of personal reflection. On “Out There” they find themselves questioning the afterlife and what comes next over a pretty heavenly duel guitar warmth. The song’s easy going blanket of soft distortion and sustain works perfectly with the dreamy vocal melody, leaving a quick impression and a welcome introduction to their latest record.
