It’s important to remember that the change of a calendar year doesn’t automatically make releases from the prior year “old” and it certainly doesn’t make them irrelevant. Wren Kitz released his fantastic new album, Early Worm, on December 11th, meaning it’s less than a month old. It also happens to be amazing and we can’t get enough of it. Released via Sophomore Lounge and Feeding Tube Records, it is very much Kitz’s “rock” album, built on noisy guitars, warped field recordings, and a hazy dream like quality that sounds worn in all of the best ways. The record hits that sweet spot somewhere between Helvetia, Neil Young, and Built to Spill, it’s sonically adventurous but also easy on the ears. Its weird. Its beautiful. Early Worm is a true stand-out of last year and guess what… it’s still a stand-out in this new year too.

The Burlington, VT based musician is today sharing a tranquil video for “Into The House,” one of the many bright spots on an album that feels faded by the sun. The video was captured by Kitz on a Super 8 camera and features a great mix of city and countryside, with plenty of nature and small town goodness. The song does fuzzy gymnastics, working off an acoustic backbone but with layers of trickled distortion really setting the tone for Kitz’s warbling vocals. It’s the zen we can all use this week.
