Following the dissolution of Zula, the great and long running Brooklyn experimental psych pop quartet, Henry Terepka has stayed busy. When he’s not producing efforts for other artists (Caitlin Pasko, Operator Music Band) at Pinch Recording, he’s been putting his focus forward a new solo project under the name Henry Grant. Following an EP in 2017, last year saw a stream of productivity from the project, with a pair of singles and his full length debut, City Mouse, witch features from Jamell NYT and Alejandro Salazar-Dyer (Zula, Gemma, Leapling) among others. Six months later and Henry Grant returns with a new EP, Sensations, due out February 5th.
The first single, “Lie To Me,” finds Henry doing what he does best, making futuristic psych-pop that wanders its own course. The path is never certain, but the journey is the best part. Once again joined by Salazar-Dyer on drums, the beat starts and stops, grooving with a silky R&B flourish, the perfect backdrop for the swirling bit of alien folk and otherworldly pop that Henry Grant has near perfected over the years. The song seems to be built on a feeling of uncertainty, the idea that you’d rather be lied to than know what truly comes next.
