This past December saw that launch of the very ambitious “DEMO FEST,” a fundraiser for Solidarity Across Borders the found over 200 artists writing, recording, and producing a brand new demo, each of which were released just days before Christmas. Included among the mountain of submissions are demos from Gash, Decorum, and All Feels, the solo project of Candace Clement (Bunny’s A Swine, Footings, Psychic Energy). Her debut EP, Why Are You Like This?, is a departure from Clement’s other bands, instead opting for bedroom pop sound, one that’s built on meditative soundscapes, looped melodies, and electronic rhythms. It’s futuristic pop with a minimal touch, and All Feels uses that framework to wander in different directions.

“We Love This For You” is the EP opener, while setting the tone for the album, it definitely leans the furthest into the “pop” sphere of Clement’s sound. With a skeletal framework, the song basically works on a loop, the vocals doubling up and over each other, in a way that might feel familiar to fan’s of Bunny’s A Swine, but with a feel that is far different. It’s a sweetened melody that leads the song’s questions of “why do we do the things we do,” both overlapped and singular, the song unfolding and un-jumbling itself as it goes along, eventually coming to Clement’s conclusion that she has “grown into elder-hood, still feel the suburbs are crushing our souls, we basically knew.”
