It’s been one year since we were introduced to Boston’s Freaking, a new band that features three former members of SUPERTEEN among their ranks. Right on time however, Freaking return with a new single, “I’m Not Opposed To Sand,” another song that has us incredibly excited about this band. Their latest is a swirling and dreamy dose of psych, with that homegrown basement punk DIY vibe at its heart.

It’s a song that deals with time and all our perceptions of it, with intersectional lyrics from Meryl Schultz that swerve between time and space, repeating the cosmic refrain, “count them quick or count them slow / the moments pass by anyways.” With a patient intro that propels from rim taps and reverberating notes that feel like a splash in the pond, we’re slowly lulled into the other dimensional shift, with the band gently floating between frantic doubled vocals and a space age dreaminess, with adept control of both.
