It’s been a strange year for bands that have been doing it for a while, but it’s probably been an ever stranger year for band’s that are just getting started. New York’s Blue Yonder only formed in the early months of 2020, but yet somehow they’ve been productive enough to write and record Ladies of the Night, their debut record. Due out September 25th via Spirit Lust (Should’ve, Karaoke Mood Killer, Otra Vez), the band - comprised of Lena Fjortoft, DJ O'loane, and Dalton Patton - sound awfully promising based on their first single, the swooning and dreamy Americana tinged “Lover of Mine.”

With an obvious Angel Olsen and Big Thief influence, Blue Yonder aim to take that framework and make it their own, mixing together a syrupy twang and deceptively huge guitar melody to create something that feels both comforting and slightly surreal. Fjortoft’s vocals quiver from the start, setting the tone with an immediate presence, deepening the rich melodic lines with harmonized accents. It’s a rather realized first single that feels like the work of a band far beyond their years, and we’re eager to hear more.
