Moth, the project of Gonzo’s Darcy Berry, is the latest to be birthed from Melbourne’s consistent vat of musical talent. They’ve managed to garner a reputation for their dynamic, punching live show, the live incarnation consisting of members from Kosmetika, Alien Nosejob and Body Maintenance.
“Ritual,” Moth’s latest single, is manic and harmoniously fragmentary - its off-kilter nature its strong appeal. Drums toppling, guitar jolting, “Ritual”’s strength in rhythm is supplemented by its droning synth, as Berry’s vocal phrasing travels a similar path.
Often tactile, Moth’s modern, rhythmically driven post-punk is refreshing, and a warmly welcomed release this year. Machine Nation is out July 3 via Marthouse Records. Preorders are available now.
