London’s Modern Technology are set to launch a new compilation, Human Worth Vol. 1, due out May 1st (just in time for Bandcamp to waive their share of the proceeds). Much like the dense noise rock of Modern Technology’s sound, the eighteen track compilation revels in that particular brand of explosive sludge and primal noise rock filth (though not entirely), the sound that seems to ooze from the UK underground in abundance. With songs from Silent Front, Territorial Gobbing, Cattle, Bruxa Maria, Thank, and beyond, it’s a constant kick in the face, and a welcome introduction to a new label we’re eager to keep an eye on. All proceeds from the compilation will go to the Trussell Trust, to help support the food banks and people who need their support at this time of crisis.

If you read our premiere of Thank’s latest EP, Please, back in October, you should already know that they are one of the UK’s most exciting noise rock bands (if not, it’s not too late). The band’s knack for blending the surreal and vicious into something both heavy and comedic with an experimental edge is refreshing and rather brilliant. With Human Worth Vol. 1, we get a peak into the Thank process with a rehearsal demo of their song “Fragile Ego,” the studio version of which was on the band’s triumphantly sordid debut, Sexghost Hellscape. It’s encouraging to see that the band have been delivering their brand of claustrophobic madness and abrasive electronics since their earliest days, the demo sounding raw and unpolished but fully realized and brutally resonant. The noise is unwound and unfettered, at times sounding like a vaccuum has entered to suck the last bits of our skull from the puddle, but Thank never skitter off track, darting through carnage with acerbic wit and demented sort of grace.
