It takes a special kind of musician to constantly change their sound and remain consistently interesting. Nate Amos has done this for as long as he’s been creating music, from post-hardcore bands in the Chicago DIY scene to his work with Water From Your Eyes and his ever shifting solo project, This Is Lorelei. Following the exceptional Move Around EP from last December, which experimented with karaoke pop at it’s most radiant, Amos returns with new single “Sick Twist,” yet another song that finds him creating with freedom, drifting away from previous efforts to try something new.

The single opens with an almost Eastern modality to it, warped into something that feels like near industrial if it weren’t for the abrasive guitars and the juxtaposing sweet vocal melody. “Sick Twist” is a mutant energy of accessibility and complex arrangements, skittering along somewhere between manipulated art-rock and devolved bedroom pop. Amos has an uncanny ability to marry together disparate sounds into something welcoming, using time and space to sink deeper into the atmosphere, weaving in and out and around all at the same time.
